Safety & Screening

Safety is the first protocol.

This work is powerful, and it is not for everyone. Before anything else, we make sure a retreat is appropriate and safe for you. Participation always begins with a screening conversation, never an instant booking.

NEXUS operates lawfully in Mexico. We make no medical or therapeutic claims, and we promise no outcomes. What follows describes how we hold the experience with care. It is written for prospective participants and is not medical advice. Always consult your own physician before applying.

Who this is for, and who it is not

Our screening exists to protect you. Some people should not take part, not as a judgement, but because the risks are real. The list below is a starting point and is to be verified by our medical advisor. Final suitability is always decided together, through conversation, never by a form alone.

Contraindications we screen for

  • Personal or family history of psychosis, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder.
  • Certain heart conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or a history of stroke.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Specific medications, in particular SSRIs and SNRIs, MAOIs, and lithium, which can interact with psilocybin. Do not stop any prescribed medication on your own, this is reviewed with you and your physician.
  • Other significant physical or mental health conditions identified during screening.

You must be 18 or older. We do not work with anyone currently in acute crisis, and we will encourage you to seek appropriate care instead. Declining a place is sometimes the most caring thing we can do.

The screening process

After you inquire, a facilitator reaches out personally. Screening covers your physical health, mental health history, current medications, and your reasons for coming. Where appropriate, we coordinate with your own doctor. Nothing about this is automated, and nothing is rushed.

Informed consent

Before you commit, you receive a clear account of what the experience involves, its known risks, and what we do and do not provide. Consent is ongoing: you may ask questions, change your mind, or step back at any point.

Trained facilitators

Ceremonies are held by experienced, trained facilitators with continuous presence throughout the day. (Facilitator credentials and training to be confirmed and listed on the Team page.)

Preparation and integration

The ceremony is one day inside a seven-day arc. The days before prepare your nervous system and clarify your intention; the days after are dedicated to integration, making sense of the experience and carrying it gently into daily life. Preparation and integration are not extras; they are the work.

Emergency protocols

We maintain clear procedures for medical and psychological support during the retreat, including trained staff on site and access to appropriate care. (Specific protocols, on-site medical provision, and local emergency arrangements to be verified by the medical advisor.)

Have questions about your suitability?

The honest answer to “is this right for me?” comes from a conversation, not a webpage. Reach out and a facilitator will talk it through with you.
